Electric tape airplane

A guide to making an airplane out of sticks and electric tape

What do you need?
  • Four sticks – all should be around 30cm in length and as straight as possible
  • Electric tape, ideally in a variety of colours (you can find electric tape in DIY stores)

As with any activity, they will need an adult to help them

  • How many can do this?
  • Will suit what age?
  • How long does the fun last?

This is a great activity to give small children a sense of creative satisfaction in producing a cool looking toy that they’ve made themselves.

Step 1
Step 1

Position three of the sticks on top of one of the others sticks about a third of the way down the plane’s body to form the wings and the body of the airplane. An adult will need to tape these securely into place – see picture.

Step 2
Step 2

It’s now time to set the child’s creative prowess free on decorating the airplane body. Get them started by winding the tape around. They might decide to stick to one colour all over with some go faster electric tape stripes on the side. Alternatively they may decide on their own personal and colourful interpretation.

Step 3
Step 3

Allow them to continue until they feel their work is done. It’s now over to them to enjoy playing with their creation.
