Treasure Hunt in the Dark

This can be played in the back garden at night or in a darkened room. Treasure finds are hidden and children have to hunt to find them using torches

What do you need?
  • A torch per player
  • Treasure – be inventive with what’s in your cupboards
  • Tin foil (optional)

As with any activity, they will need an adult to help them.

  • How many can do this?
  • Will suit what age?
  • How long does the fun last?

A fantastic way to add some evening excitement before kids wind down for bed.

Step 1
Step 1

First choose where to play. If you’re able to be up when it’s dark, then hiding the treasure in a garden offers a real sense of adventure. If however the long summer days mean that it doesn’t get dark until way after bedtime, then a darkened room works just as well.

Step 2

Next you need to choose your treasure. This could be as simple as a favourite toy or food. Alternatively you could use a collection of foreign coins, make gold nuggets by spraying kidney beans gold, or treasure coins out of cardboard circles wrapped in tin foil. Once decided, hide your treasure.

Step 3
Step 3

Once set up, give everyone a torch and you’re off. If you don’t have enough torches to go around then encourage people to share.
